Royal Canadian Navy Piasecki- HUP-3 Naval Helicopter

This page is respectfully dedicated to the Officers and Men that served in HMCS' Shearwater and Labrador, and especially to the amazing volunteers that painstakingly rebuilt and refurbished this amazing piece of Cnadian Naval Avaiation Heritge. This page would not exist if not for their efforts.

The Piasecki Hup-3, the one of the pioneers of rotary wing aircraft in Canada's Navy.
The Canadian Navy had 3 to support the Icebreaker HMCS Labrador in Arctic operations.
Joined the fleet in 1954, Retired in 1964.
RCN Registration # 51-16623 (RCN).
Specifications: Rotor diameter: 10.7 m (35 ft), Length: 9.8 m (32 ft), Height: 3.8 m (12 ft 6 in), Weight, Empty: 1,874 kg (4,132 lb), Weight, Gross: 2,608 kg (5,750 lb), Cruising Speed:129 km/h (80 mph), Max Speed: 161 km/h (100 mph), Service Ceiling:3,050 m (10,000 ft), Range: 644 km (400 mi). They were used to report on ice conditions and conduct hydrographic and oceanographic surveys in support of HMCS Labrador.
Designated as "Utility Helicopters".
Nicknamed as "shoe" or "Hupmobile".
She currently resides on the display floor at Shearwater Avaiation Museum in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia.
A magnificent addition and credit to the volunteers of SAM.
