The Other Halifax Explosion

Bedford Naval Armament Depot Magazine Explosion July 18/19,1945

A barge alongside the ammunitioning jetty exploded, causing massive amounts of newly unshipped explosives to detonate, rocking the Halifax area area for several days.
A busted bunker.
Fire truck overturned.
Remants of yet another building.
Roof holed.
Mountains of shells.
Absolute destruction.
More carnage.
6 inch shells under a roof.
Sailors survey the damage.

General carnage.
Whats remains of the pier.

Boxes of small arm ammo remain standing where building was.
Complete destruction on the waterfront. Although not on the scale of the 1917 explosion, it nonetheless remains a potent reminder of the costs of war at home.
