H.M.C.S. Micmac R-10/ DDE-214
"Melkadae" (Fearless)

H.M.C.S. Micmac, a Tribal Class Destroyer, was the first Destroyer built in Canada. Launched on 18 September 1943 at the Halifax Shipyards Ltd. She Commissioned on the 18th of September 1945, in to His Majesties Canadian Navy, too late to see war service. She acted as a Training ship throughout her life. At one point, Micmac was the only commissioned destroyer on the Atlantic Coast.
A collision in July 1947 with the Freighter Yarmouth County extensively damaged Micmac. It was decided that that during her repairs she would be converted to a Destroyer Escort, and it is in this guise she is pictured here.
On March 31st, 1964, Micmac was paid off and shortly thereafter, broken up in Faslane Scotland. Micmac never fired a shot in anger, the only ship of her class not bloodied. Micmac was named in honor of The Mi'kmaq Tribe of Atlantic Canada.
